“Ultimately, it has to do with the question of what school dress should look like, and what options the school authority has to help work the pupils in,” District Attorney Schwarz said. In the Oberhausen case, the Bosnian girl wore a long, dress-like headscarf that covers the shoulders and upper body. In contrast to the burka, such a khimar as this leaves the face completely free. The covering was a thorn in the flesh to the rector who was teaching the girl. He repeatedly asked the girl to dress differently and ultimately resorted to sanctions against her.

The teacher confirms the accusation and is still in his position today. “Yes it’s true, she was occasionally excluded from instruction.” For him, it is a constitutional issue. He has “a problem with the khimar because I see the messages behind it. We can’t allow societal conflicts that lead to other areas to be brought into the school.

How true! But completely and absolutely not up with the times. Therefore, the school director will likely get the short end of the stick in court…
