Hamburg — again. Onur K. (17) and Berhan I (17), who killed roof-worker Thomas M. (photo) for 20 cents (PI reported), are free. The ash cloud over Iceland is to blame because the one judge sat stranded in Spain and was unable to make the important deadlines. It’s not enough that one who was hardly 19 years old was stabbed to death by an Afghani for no apparent reason.

Because Thomas M. († 44) refused to give them any change, two juveniles mercilessly beat and kicked him with their boots – until he was motionless. Unbelievable! Now the alleged criminals have been released from custody before the judgment!

The Hamburg schoolboys Onur K. (17) and Berhan I. (17) have been accused of bodily injury resulting in a fatality and attempted murder, and should really already have been sentenced for the crime committed last June.

However, the trial was stalled in the Hamburg District Court because the ash cloud got in the way!

The airline chaos because of the Iceland volcano Eyjafjallajökull happened during the time of the on-going trial. Due to the ash, a judge sat stranded in Spain and missed important deadlines.

There was nothing else left for the Upper District Court to do than to cancel the arrest warrant against the accused before the sentencing. Onur K. and Berhan I. had been confined in the interim for six months, and that is more than criminal process ordinance allows!

Roof worker Thomas M. and a companion were on the way home when they met up with Onur K. and Berhan I., two known violent criminals by the police, at the Hamburg-Harburg train station. The complaint: the teenagers wanted 20 cents. When the 44-year-old refused, they let loose. The beat him up. When he lay on the ground, they repeatedly kicked him in the head – he suffered a skull fracture.

Thomas M. died after a three-week struggle against death due to his injuries. The alleged criminals were arrested, with aid of identification through video cameras.

The newly scheduled main trial is to begin on May 25th.

Isn’t it nice to see how carefully the Land of Justice follows its laws regarding those who couldn’t care less about them?
