From Sierra Leone in West Africa to Oberammergau, from Hofheim, Flörsheim, Buxtehude all the way to Vienna and Zurich, in villages and communities, information booths, street festivals or parties will be celebrating the 62nd anniversary of the modern State of Israel. Which cities have registered for this year’s “I Like Israel Day,” you can find out from the list on the ILI website. We will be looking forward with pleasure to reports, photos and videos from PI readers who have participated in an Israel Day celebration at pi-team@pi-news.net.
Just as PI reader Edda from Berlin who traveled to Hannover on May 9th for an (advanced) Israel Day celebration and wrote the following about it:
It was the fifth time for Israel Day to take place at the Lister Turm community center in Hannover. Israel’s 62nd anniversary was celebrated, which is very important. The weather held up and remained dry, thus making the festive mood even better. There was a colorful stage show with Jewish, Israeli music and dancing, as well as a kick-boxing performance from the sports club Makkabi. Various organizations introduced themselves at booths, such as the DIG task force from Hannover, North German Friends of Israel, Magen Adom David, Chabad Lubawitsch, Ebenezer Aid Foundation, among others.
The festival for Israel’s anniversary shined forth with joy of life, to which also the beautiful blue and white of the Israel flags contributed. A side note was mentioned that a visitor of the festival had drawn a smiley face on a paper flag (Israel flag). Even though the motif of such things is positive, they shouldn’t be drawn on an Israeli flag. Something as precious and beautiful as the flag of Israel should ideally not be disfigured this way.
