At least five people were killed and according to recent reports around ten injured in a shooting attack at the Ft. Lauderdale airport in the US state of Florida. The attacker shot around in the baggage claim area of the airport it was reported. According to mayor Barbara Sharief, the 26-year-old shooter was arrested and the airport was locked down temporarily. Nothing has been announced yet regarding the perpetrator’s motive.

Update 5:00: FOX News reports that the arrested shooter Esteban Santiago-Ruiz stated to the FBI in November 2016 that he was forced to watch IS videos and fight for them, which then led to his being brought to the psychiatric unit. Around four years prior to this, three weapons among other things were seized in a search of his apartment on suspicion of pedophilia. 11:40 p.m.: The detainee is 26-year-old Esteban Santiago-Ruiz. He was born in New Jersey and was formerly a reservist with the US Army. Santiago, however, stayed for a long time in Puerto Rico where his mother and brother live. He served in the “Puerto Rico National Guard” from December 2007 to April 2010 and was deployed from April 23, 2010 to February 19, 2011 in Iraq, NBC reports.
